ASEXUAL AWARENESS WEEK 21-27TH OCTOBER 2018 – Coming Out As Asexual

Today marks the start of Asexual Awareness Week from Oct 21st-27th 2018. Otherwise know as #aceweek.

This is the week that many people around the world go that extra mile to raise awareness of Asexuality and it is a huge opportunity for those who have not yet come out as asexual but been thinking about it for some time, to do just that, and come out. This could be to family, to friends, or to a loved one, or all 3.

If you are thinking about coming out but not sure how to go about it, one of the other speakers at the UK Asexuality Conference said they found it best to explain how they feel in regard to having sex, rather than at first say they are asexual, which can be harder to understand.

Before I knew I am asexual, I used to say to heterosexual guys I dated, that I didn’t like sex. I didn’t even know asexuality existed back then, but I knew I didn’t like sex. I think this is an easier concept to grasp because people can relate to the fact that not everyone likes doing everything, in this case sex, whereas a lack of sexual attraction is more harder to understand; unless you are asexual, it is something that is never usually talked about – not unless you are fortunate enough to have bumped into someone who is asexual in your life, or seen an article, documentary, or radio show about it, or you just happen to come across it online.

If you haven’t yet read my Asexual Perspectives 47 Asexual Stories, Love, Life and Sex, ACElebration of Asexual Diversity book, I first discovered I am asexual in 2014, when I went to see a counsellor because I couldn’t date heterosexuals any more for fear of them wanting sex at the end of the date; it made me so very anxious that I almost wet myself. But, I said I still like kissing. She said she was very worried about me because I would have to have sex in order to keep a good guy. I was absolutely devastated as it was the worst thing she could have said to me, as I just couldn’t do it anymore.

So after the counsellor said that to me, I got home and went online, I Googled “I love kissing but not sex” and that was when I discovered www.asexuality.org and asexuality, and after 3 weeks of research I finally understood not only that I am asexual, but what part of the asexual spectrum I was. It was a wonderful feeling of joy and relief to finally know there were others like me, who could live and love without sex.

ASEXUAL AWARENESS WEEK 2018

If you didn’t know, every October is when Asexual Awareness Week occurs, and this year 2018, is no exception, (21st-27th of October 2018, is Asexual Awareness Week).

Asexual Awareness Week gives each and every asexual the opportunity to promote Asexual Awareness and to ‘come out’ to others if you haven’t already. If you have any family or friends that want to help you to raise awareness too, this is the perfect time to get them to do just that.

We need more visibility, we need more education for others, and we need to get our voices heard – there is absolutely nothing wrong with being asexual and I believe living life as an asexual can be one of the most positive and empowering experiences. However, I know the difficulties that crop up, the objections, those awkward moments, the lack of understanding and sensitivity. It’s also tough finding other aces to meet in person, to form strong relationships with, and to find a life partner/s should we wish to. That is why it is so very important for us to raise awareness as much as possible. Asexualise.com Re-launch! Asexualise Back Live and Looking lush!!!! Asexualise.com Gets a Makeover! Yes, it’s true! What do you think of the new look??

Unfortunately some of my other websites were hacked and my web host suspended all my sites so the virus would not spread any further and unfortunately in the process of wiping the cores files out in the other site directories, it effected the theme of this one. So almost a whole month later, after getting rid of the virus from 10 of my other sites – yes, you did read right 10, not only have I now become more of a WordPress security and back-up pro, I am sporting a brand new design!! They say a change is as good as a rest and I think the site was in need of an update too!!

A lot has happened since we last spoke and that includes splitting up with my asexual boyfriend who was no good for me in the end!! On Sunday 29th of October, I had to split with my asexual boyfriend. The guy who I thought was my soulmate, and who was really kind, sweet and loving towards me, turned out not to be so nice after all, not loving me like he first did, or valuing my worth, and in fact exhibited some controlling behaviour! It is hard when you think you know someone, then find out they are not the person you thought they are and he did a good job of fooling me!! I really thought he truly and deeply cared for me, but I was mistaken. His behaviour appeared to change so quickly!

These videos were hard for me to do, after the break-up!

After my hurt and pain started to heal! Here is my advice on how to get over relationship heartbreak and heartache!

  1. Allow yourself to grieve, better out that in. Do not bottle it up!
  2. Speak to family and friends to get their support.
  3. Get your emotions out constructively and do blogging or YouTubing if you need to.
  4. Do things that are not just distracting, but that are productive and help develop you as a person!
  5. Self-date. It is fantastic for your soul!

How To Repel Unwanted Advances!!

There are a number of things you can do to repel unwanted advances, some are obvious and some are more subtle!! Here are a few things you can try to repel unwanted advances!!:

  • In a polite way – tell them to shove their sex up their back side – You are not interested in having sex with anyone no matter how ‘sexy’, ‘hot’ or ‘gorgeous’ they are. Or if you are a demisexual, tell them – ‘You will have to wait! And wait! And wait! – But the best things come to the who wait!”
  • Tell people you are asexual, not a sexual, within the first few minutes of speaking to the person who has shown a remote interest in you. ( I do this, sometimes even before they show an interest in me, because it saves me a lot of hassle and handles objections before they have time to raise them.)
  • Wear a Asexualise Asexual T Shirt like this one!  It gets the message across without saying anything!
  • Say no! I am not interested!
  • Promote Aven so they can understand asexuality better and know there are thousands like us.
  • Talk so much about asexuality that they get bored and give up on persuading you otherwise.
